About Me

When I first began thinking of changing careers, I knew I wanted to choose a field that is mentally demanding, constantly evolving, and never boring. After a colleague mentioned a friend who went to a coding bootcamp, I began to research the world of software engineering and found that I really enjoyed coding! Like medicine, software engineering involves critical thinking and problem solving and thanks to its ever-evolving nature, the learning never stops - as an avid and curious learner, that is what I like most about software engineering! It also allows for me to be creative in a way I was not able to be previously.

When looking for bootcamps, I knew I wanted an intense, full-time, and in-person experience. I ultimately selected App Academy for those reasons – going through the program was more challenging than I expected, which made it even more rewarding. My favorite part of the experience was pair programming with my fellow students – working together to solve problems and hearing them share their perspectives allowed me to learn faster and become a better coder.

I am excited to join the tech field as a software engineer and hope to use my knowledge of both coding and medicine to improve medical technologies and software for fellow doctors. I enjoy both front and back-end development and am looking forward to working with a team of like-minded individuals!

Projects

Journease is a comprehensive trip planning web application. It allows users to create detailed travel itineraries for various destinations and occasions with ease. The platform promotes collaborative planning, allowing multiple users to contribute and refine trip plans together. Furthermore, users can openly share their curated itineraries, providing insights and inspiration to the community. Journease invites users to explore a wide range of travel experiences by accessing plans created by fellow users.

Journease is built with the MERN stack: MongoDB, Express, React, and Node. Additional technologies used include Google Maps API and AWS S3 Storage for image hosting.

Chompy is a clone of Chewy, an e-commerce site specializing in pet products. Chompy was built with a Rails backend and React/Redux frontend.Languages used include JavaScript, Ruby, HTML, and CSS. PostgreSQL was the database used and AWS cloud storage was used for asset management.

JumpyHorse is an 8bit, retro style game built using vanilla JavaScript and Canvas API. The user navigates an equine avatar over obstacles. Colliding with an obstacle will end the game. Jumping is accomplished by pressing the spacebar. Start modal includes game instructions and start button that begins the game. End modal pops up upon collision and includes a button to restart the game. Galloping sound effects play during the game and end on game over.
